Beautiful handmade, blank greetings cards featuring quality reproductions of my paintings of old Luton.
5 x 7 inches
Having been a theatrical scenic artist for many years I have recently branched out into much smaller artworks. My interest in the historical and lost buildings of Edwardian Luton inspired me to use them as a subject for my acrylic paintings. Each card features a professionally printed image on water colour paper and a brief history of the featured location.
This card shows one of the most iconic of Luton's lost buildings the Corn Exchange on Market Hill circa 1900. In addition to agricultural trading this neo-gothic building, now sadly demolished, was used as an indoor meat and provisions market, theatre, cafe and was the principal local recruitment centre for soldiers during WWI. The site of the building is now a public open space.
