This weekend saw the Arty Otter attend the Keech Christmas Market at Luton's Barnfield College. It was lovely meeting so many customers many of whom shared stories and reminiscences inspired by some of the artwork on display. Star of the show was undoubtedly my new painting of Luton’s ABC/Savoy cinema in its heyday which features on the front of the first Arty Otter Christmas card. The image shows the beloved cinema on a slushy winter’s night in 1947 with eager cinemagoers queueing to see the Christmas classic “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Many people of the cards were bought specifically for ex-pat relatives and a few for film buffs too. The card is also the latest edition to our online shop. I had many suggestions for subjects for future Luton Heritage cards including George Street, Wardown House, The Grand and the Gaumont Theatres and various hat factories. And so it looks like I’ll be very busy in the new year!
